Stinky Mess

This is the mess we are dealing with right now. Right before Thanksgiving we noticed that one of the drains in our basement had backed up so we had a plumber come out and snake it. He told us that where our line met with the city's line it had separated or broke and should be taken care of soon. We went to mom and dad's for Thanksgiving and hoped we wouldn't have to deal with it for a little longer. Everything seemed fine when we arrived home Sunday evening, but by Monday the drain in the main part of the basement (carpeted area) was backing up. Tuesday we had another plumber come out and try to run a camera through the line so we would know exactly what was wrong. He wasn't able to clean out the lines and told us the same thing the first plumber did. So...they came back about 12:00 today to dig a big hole in our backyard and fix the line. What a mess... home owner's insurance won't cover the plumbing work because the work isn't being done under the house and they won't replace the carpet because sewer backup is not in our policy.
